Outset now integrates directly with Dovetail, so you can send AI-generated research reports straight from Outset into any Dovetail project. Whether you're already using Dovetail as your research hub or exploring it, this guide covers how the integration works, how to set it up, and what to expect once your data lands in Dovetail.

What is Dovetail?

Dovetail is a customer intelligence platform that brings together feedback, conversations, and customer signals in one place. It uses AI to help teams understand what customers are saying and quickly share what matters.

With Dovetail, you can:

  • Centralize customer feedback from interviews, surveys, support, and sales calls

  • Tag, analyze, and search transcripts and notes

  • Use AI to surface themes, summarize patterns, and answer questions instantly

  • Create shareable reports and dashboards to keep teams aligned

Your Outset reports can now sit alongside the rest of your customer intelligence, giving your team a single place to review customer signals and make informed decisions.

Exporting an Outset report to Dovetail

Here’s how to export a report from Outset to Dovetail:

  1. Open your report in Outset
Go to any completed report you'd like to send to Dovetail.

  2. Click Download → Export to Dovetail
In the top-right corner of the report page, click the Download icon and select Export to Dovetail.

  3. Connect your Dovetail account
The first time you export, you’ll be prompted to log in or sign up for Dovetail. Outset will request access to your Dovetail projects.

  4. Choose a Dovetail project
You’ll be able to search for or select the existing project where the report should go.

  5. Confirm export
Click Export Report. You’ll get a confirmation once it’s been successfully sent.

Where the report goes in Dovetail

Once exported, your Outset report appears in the Insights tab of the Dovetail project you selected.

Inside Dovetail, you can:

  • Search through your report

  • Analyze content using Dovetail AI

  • Add tags and comments

  • Share findings with your team

The report maintains its structure from Outset, including sections, highlights, and tags. Dovetail does not modify the report or send any changes back to Outset.

Who can use the integration?

You’ll need:

  • An active Outset account

  • Access to a Dovetail workspace (you can start free here)

No setup is needed within Dovetail—everything is managed from the Outset side.

What data Dovetail can access

When you connect your accounts, you grant Dovetail permission to:

  • List your Dovetail projects (so you can select where to send reports)

  • Import Outset report data into your chosen project

Dovetail does not write or modify anything in your Outset account.
