AI Interviewer Instructions

Outset's AI can automatically probe further without needing to create structured text. Here, you have two options for probing: Standard or Deep exploration

Standard

AI will ask a limited number of follow ups and only when appropriate in the context of the conversation.

Deep exploration

AI will spend more time on this question, dynamically probing several times to get deeper insights.

Probing instructions

Provides Outset's AI with more guidance on how to ask the question. This can include instructions for areas to probe further, what kinds of follow up questions are appropriate, and even tone of voice to take.

Allow interviewer to skip question

If an answer to a previous question makes this one irrelevant, then you can check this box tell the interviewer to skip the question.

Probing in general

Outset's AI is built to get insights for you, but questions and prompts will ultimately determine how much you can get.

Testing your guide

Outset gives you two ways to test your interviews:

  1. You can test your interview yourself by acting as a participant. To do this, go to the tab titled "Guide" and on the right side of your screen, you'll see a button titled "Test Interview." You'll be able to start from the beginning or test individual questions as you build your interview.

  2. You can also use Outset's AI test interviewer to run up to 50 tests. To do this, go to the tab titled "Recruit" and select the box titled "Run Test Interviews."

At the bottom of the page, you'll be able to create audience personas to get more accurate test results, although this isn't required to run test interviews. You'll also be prompted to input the number of test interviews to be generated. To run the tests, select the button titled "Run job."

Testing isn't required before sending interviews to participants, but it is recommended to ensure you get the results you're looking for.
