Make your Figma prototype visible to participants
Last updated: June 3, 2026
When your study includes a Figma prototype, participants open it right inside the interview. If the prototype is shared only with your Figma team or organization, participants outside it hit a login or password screen and the prototype won’t load. Setting the prototype to “Anyone with the link can view” fixes this for everyone.
Good to know: This is the single most common reason a prototype won’t load for participants. Sharing it with “Anyone with the link can view” lets it open on any browser or device — no Figma account required. |
Set sharing to “Anyone with the link can view”
Open the prototype’s file in Figma.
Click Share in the top-right corner.
Open the access dropdown (it may say “Only people invited can access”).
Choose Anyone with the link.
Make sure the permission is set to can view.
Copy the link and use that one in your Outset study.
Avoid password-protected prototypes
A password adds an extra gate on top of sharing. Figma needs third-party cookies to confirm the password, and many participants’ browsers — especially Safari and mobile — block those by default, so the prototype still won’t load even after they type the password.
If you need to keep the password, add a note to the question text asking participants to allow third-party cookies first. You can link them to the participant guide here: https://help.outset.ai/articles/4796350619-enable-figma-prototype-cookies
Working in a team or org workspace?
If your Figma file lives in an organization or team space, link sharing may be turned off by an admin. Ask your Figma admin to allow “Anyone with the link” for the file, or move a copy to a space where link sharing is permitted.
Still stuck?
If you’ve set the prototype to “Anyone with the link can view” and it still won’t load for participants, reach out via the chat widget or at support@outset.ai and we’ll take a look.
